OUR NEW WELFARE STATE
Candidate Obama told Joe the Plumber he wanted to REDISTRIBUTE THE WEALTH. The London SUNDAY TIMES thinks he has started.
According to the Sunday Times: “RONALD REAGAN started it, Bill Clinton finished it and last week Barack Obama was accused of engineering its destruction. One of the few undisputed triumphs of American government of the past 20 years – the sweeping welfare reform programme that sent millions of dole claimants back to work – has been plunged into jeopardy by billions of dollars in state handouts included in the president’s controversial economic stimulus package.
“Robert Rector, a prominent welfare researcher who was one of the architects of Clinton's 1996 reform bill, warned last week that Obama’s stimulus plan was a “welfare spendathon” that would amount to the largest one-year increase in government handouts in American history.
“Even Mickey Kaus, a prominent liberal blogger, has denounced what he describes as the “get more people on welfare” provisions of Obama’s bill. Writing at Slate, the political website, Kaus said: “Lack of jobs isn’t a reason to loosen work requirements . . . Have the Dems never heard of ‘workfare’?”

TRANSPARENT ADMINISTRATION?
February 12 – President Obama stated he would have an ethical and open administration without lobbyists.
The NO LOBBYIST pledge lasted a day. ETHICS did not last long either with all the tax cheats. There is still OPENNESS.
Would you believe President Obama preselects reporters to ask questions at his press conference? The Wall Street Journal said he did. There goes OPENNESS.
The news media did not report the unusual format. To do so may get a reporter unselected.
Remember when Candidate Obama kicked several reporters off his campaign plane just after their papers endorsed McCain?
And ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos has a daily private phone briefings with Obama Chief-of-Staff Rahm Emanuel. Then he reports objectively on the Obama Administration. Sure he does. Reference.
Is a pattern emerging?

ONLY ONE TAX CHEAT ALLOWED
It was OK that Tom Dashle worked for a lobbyist law firm as an ADVISOR even though lobbyists were not to be in the Obama administration. But when it turned out Dashle was also a TAX CHEAT, he had to go. Only one TAX CHEAT is allowed in the Cabinet. That would be Secretary of the Treasury Tim Geithner.

OBAMA GRANTS WAIVERS
On his first day as President, President Obama, among other items, ordered new lobbying rules for "a clean break from business as usual." Reference 1. Any former lobbyist in his administration cannot serve in any function related to their former lobbying activities.
Even earlier, Obama picked Tom Daschle to be secretary of health and human services. Daschle is not a registered lobbyist but an ADVISOR for the law firm Alston and Bird that represents some of the health care industry’s most powerful interests. Reference 2.
Apparantly that does not count.
Attorney General-designee Eric Holder was a lobbyist with Covington & Burling, Deputy Health and Human Services Secretary-designate Bill Corr advocated for the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids and Vice President Joe Biden’s chief of staff, Ron Klain, was a player at O’Melveny & Myers. Reference 3.
William Lynn has been nominated to be deputy defense secretary. Lynn is a former lobbyist for Raytheon, a major defense contractor. Reference 4.
Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner was not a lobbyist. He was a tax cheat. That is NOT A PROBLEM problem to President Obama.
Who did the Treasury Secretary hire as his Chief of Staff? A lobbyist (Paterson) who had lobbied for Goldman Sacks. That must be ok also since the Chief of Staff does not have to be confirmed by the Senate.
